For all you need is apple pie

I love apple pie so as it's now autumn I just couldn't resist! So I thought for my first blog post I would share an apple pie recipe that is easy and tastes amazing. Let's get baking!

-Ingredients-

The pastry:

-350g Plain flour

-175g Block butter

-6tsp Cold water

-1 egg yoke

The apples:

-1kg Desert cooking apples ( I used normal eating apples so really it's up to you!)

-85g Brown sugar

-1tsp of water

- A sprinkling of cinnamon (or more if your cinnamon obsessed)

- A small bowl of sauce flour (this is to dip the apples in before cooking)

-Making the pastry-

-First sieve your plain flour into a medium sized mixing bowl.

-Now add the butter to the flour in the shape of small cubes.

-You should now wash your hands under cold water as this will prevent your hands from melting the butter and destroying your pastry!

-Using your finger tips rub the flour and butter until it looks like bread crumbs.

-You can now gradually add the water while mixing the ingredients with a knife.

-Then with your hands gather your mixture together into a ball.

-Finally wrap the pastry in clingfilm and put in the fridge for 30min. While you wait you can prepare the apples! Or, in addition, if you want to be organised you could wash up your utensils.

-Preparing the apples-

-First cut your apples into cubes, or slices, and peel them if you wish.

-Then melt a small piece of butter in a pan on a medium heat.

-You can now dip your apple pieces into the sauce flour, to then place in the pan.

-Now sprinkle the cinnamon, brown sugar and water into the pan.

-Then mix with a wooden spoon until the apples turn light brown.

-Constructing your pie-

-Before you start constructing you should now pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees.

-So now you can take your pastry out of the fridge and cut into 2 pieces with one the size of 2/3 and the other 1/3.

-Sprinkle flour over a rolling pin and on your work surface .

-Now roll out the 2/3 piece to about 1cm thick and the width of your dish.

-Place your rolled out piece of pastry into your dish (making sure there are no gaps)

-Then spread your apples on top.

-Now roll out your second piece of pastry to the same thickness and place on top of your dish.

-You can now use any left over pastry as decorations or use a fork to imprint around the edges of your pie.

-To make your pie look lovely, spread a thin layer of an egg yoke over the top (I actually forgot to do this step. Oh well)

-Finally put your apple pie in the oven to cook for 30-35 minutes!

I hope you enjoy making your own apple pie, as I did! And get in touch with your Mary Berry within!
